Introduction to Staff

Dr. Mark Pinkerton

Dr. Mark Pinkerton  is an Anesthesiologist who completed his Pain Management Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  He helped found a Surgery and Pain Center in Nebraska until accepting a position as the Director of Pain at St. John’s Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri.  He moved to the Kansas City area with his family in 2011 after the devastating tornado in Joplin.  He has practiced pain management full time since 1996.  He enjoys the challenge of treating pain, and the hope that comes form moving patients away from opioid medications to sustainable life changes.  He believes in promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.  Dr. Pinkerton loves living in the Kansas City area, partly because it’s close to his first grandson!  In his free time he likes to bicycle, hunt, drink coffee, grill and hang out with his large family.

Stephanie VanAusdall

Nurse Practitioner

Stephanie is a Board Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with over 18 years of experience in the medical field.   She graduated with honors from St. Luke’s College of Health Sciences.  Her philosophy towards medicine is guided by using a holistic approach to patient care; not only listening closely but being an advocate for high quality care.  Her goal is to provide attention to all aspects of health and create long lasting relationships.  She is passionate about learning, as her grandmother always said, “you learn something everyday!”.  She began practicing at Pinkerton Pain Therapy in early 2017 and enjoys working with the staff and patients.  She is married to her wonderful husband who she boasts, “lets her shine constantly and cheers her on”.  Stephanie is family oriented, loves her children, who keep her lively, “You’ll find there’s never a dull moment at our house.”  In her free time she loves being at home curling up with her family and watching movies, and eating snacks.

Joyce Welch

Joyce began her career in accounting and transitioning into the medical field, specifically pain management, 10 years ago.  She made the leap from accounting to medicine after working for a doctor’s office who needed help at the front desk.  She found she enjoyed interacting with patients rather than crunching numbers.  She is originally from Ohio but for the last 20 years has claimed Kansas as home.  She married her college sweetheart over 40 years ago.  She is blessed with two sons who picked two wonderful wives.  On the weekends she can be found at sporting events in the cheering section for her 4 grandsons or her granddaughter, reading, or trying a new recipe!

Emily studied at the University of Kansas and is currently in a masters program at UMKC.  She helps Dr. Pinkerton and Stephanie with scheduling.  She enjoys the challenge of multiple locations because it means that more patients are able to access quality care.  She currently works remote with her new baby. Some of her favorite moments are reading with her husband and cooking for her family.
